Our Story
Maria Alvarado was a kind Mexican American woman who loved to cook for her family and friends. While her and her family didn't have much, they always had a garden. It was in her mother's garden that Amalia Portillo would pick fresh Mexican chilies and homegrown spices. Maria and Amalia would cook together in the kitchen and create fresh, all natural Mexican sauces.
As Amalia began to create her own home, she used the Mexican sauce recipes created by her and her mother Maria to bless others with authentic Mexican meals. Amalia cooked for others from her heart. Amalia's daughters all have fond memories of coming home from school to a dinner table filled with family and friends enjoying a warm, home cooked Mexican meal created by their mother Amalia. Amalia made sure she passed on the love of traditional Mexican cooking and her family recipes to the next generation and this is the inspiration for Amalia's Cocina!
